Vocabulary Words

Vocabulary literally means "a list of words" and that is what we are working to create with each text we read: a list of words, that we didn't know before, but look up as we are reading and share with our peers in an attempt to build our vocabulary.

Why do vocabulary words matter?

Having a good vocabulary to draw from can help you write more effectively. Students need to use a more formal tone when writing – not conversational language – and to do that, they need a richer vocabulary to tap into those words we don’t use when we speak.

Also, successful communication or “saying what you mean” is dependent upon a good vocabulary base. Using the right words when talking, makes you a more effective communicator.

How will this work?

Each night, as you're reading, you'll be expected to look up and share 1-2 words. You'll 'share' your words by filling out the form below. 

At different points in class, we'll complete different activities to practice using the words.
