Evidence Selection & Granular Analysis

Today, we’re going to practice pulling specific granular elements of the evidence in order to discuss the author's choice and how that works to create meaning. Here’s what you need to do:
  1. Identify Granular Part(s) of the evidence

    1. What are the parts of the evidence that best connect to your thesis?

    2. Push yourself to include shorter snippets of evidence.

  2. Explain how the granular part(s) of the evidence work to create meaning

    1. In discussing how it works to create meaning you should attempt to hit on the following things, preferably in this order so that you are moving from a more narrow focus to broader connections:

      1. Authorial Choice - What is the author doing in their writing?

        1. Hint: Authorial Choices = Literary Devices

      2. Meaning - How does this create meaning in connection to your thesis?

  3. End by summarizing once again the link between your analysis and your thesis

In order to practice, we'll use this document.
